DRAUP, which stands for Deimplementation of routine chest Radiographs after Adoption of Ultrasound-guided insertion and confirmation of central venous catheter Protocol, is a clinical intervention led by Dr. Enyo Abrlodepppey at Washington University in St. Louis to phase out routine chest x-rays following above the diaphragm central venous catheter placement. Since the initial introduction in January of 2020, the protocol has seen the reduction in over 250 unnecessary chest x-rays in Emergency Department patients, saving tens of thousands of healthcare dollars and saving patients from unnecessary ionizing radiation. See the protocol below and read more in the subsequent links (sorry, WUSTL Box file is exclusive to Washington University faculty only).
